Habitat: P. pini is widespread in conifer forests where it causes white-rot of heartwood.

Porodaedalea pini produces hoof-shaped to shelf-like, hard woody fruitbodies on the trunks of trees or occasionally forms only a flat tube-layer on the substrate. The upper surface is brownish orange to reddish brown then nearly blackish, rough, and often has concentric grooves and ridges. The brownish orange flesh is hard and wood-like. The brownish pores are circular to elongate and angular or labyrinthine. The more familiar name for this species is Phellinus pini (Brotero: Fries) Bondartsev & Singer.
